She wanted to be held by Her
To feel the warmth of Her love.
But the closer she stood -
The tighter she held onto Her,
The more She burned. 

Our early attachment styles are established in childhood through the child and caregiver relationship dynamic, and evolved to act as a survival mechanism for how we relate to others. This piece is a commentary on an attachment style named ‘fearful-avoidant’. If your caregiver was dealing with their own unresolved trauma, their chaos may have manifested in the form of neglect, abuse, or other erratic behaviour that was frightening and confusing. Your caregiver was a figure of comfort, but also became a source of intense fear.
